On-Site vs Studio Recruitment Videos: Which Works for Industrial Roles?

Mark Giddens · 3 March 2026

One of the first decisions in a recruitment video is where to film it: out on site where the work happens, or in a studio or quiet office where everything is controlled. Both have their place.

On site: real and relatable

For industrial, energy and trade roles, the workplace is a big part of the story. Filming on site shows candidates:

  • The actual equipment and conditions
  • The crew they'd be joining
  • The safety culture, as it really is

People can tell the difference between a real workplace and a staged one. On-site footage feels honest, and honesty is what gets the right people to apply.

The challenges are noise, weather, changing light and the fact that the plant has to keep running. That's where experience counts. We hold the site tickets, complete your inductions, work around your shifts and plan the shoot so we get what we need without slowing the work down.

In a studio or office: polished and controlled

A studio, or a quiet room set up properly with lights and sound, gives you clean interviews with no machinery in the background. It suits:

  • Leaders explaining the company and career pathways
  • Businesses with several sites that want a consistent look
  • Interviews where clear sound really matters

The trade-off is that a studio on its own can feel corporate. It doesn't show the work.

The mix most people end up with

Most recruitment videos we make use both. Typically:

  • Interviews filmed in a quiet spot on site, or a room set up nearby
  • Footage of the real work, captured around the plant or workshop
  • Aerial footage to show the scale of a large site, where it's allowed

You get clear sound and a professional look from the interviews, and the authenticity of real workplace footage around them.

How to choose

It comes down to a few questions: How noisy and busy is the site? How important is it for candidates to see the conditions? How many roles and locations do you need to cover? We'll talk it through with you on a quick call and suggest the approach that suits your roles and your site.

Whichever way you go, one shoot can give you a main video plus shorter edits for job ads, social media and onboarding. See our recruitment videos or get in touch.
