Why Recruitment Videos Work for Industrial and Trade Employers

Mark Giddens · 14 October 2025

Finding good people for industrial, energy and trade roles is hard, and a text job ad rarely helps. It lists the duties, the tickets and the roster, but it can't show what the job is actually like. So you get applications from people who don't know what they're in for, and miss the ones who would have been a great fit.

A recruitment video fixes that by showing the work instead of describing it.

Show the real workplace

People want to see where they'll be working before they apply. A recruitment video can take them inside the plant, the workshop or the site, and show:

  • The equipment and the conditions, as they really are
  • The people they'd be working with
  • How seriously safety is taken, with everyone in the right PPE

When people see the work, they decide for themselves whether it suits them. That's the point. You want applicants who know what's involved and are ready to turn up.

Let your people do the talking

The most convincing voice in a recruitment video isn't the HR manager. It's the apprentice who started two years ago, or the supervisor who's been on the plant for twenty. Their words, unscripted and in their own language, do more than any marketing line.

Nerves are natural, so we keep it relaxed. "Ignore the camera, talk to me" usually does the trick, and if someone isn't comfortable being filmed, we don't film them.

Reach the next generation

Apprentices, trainees and school leavers expect video. A short, honest video that shows real people and real work speaks to them far better than a careers brochure.

Save time in the hiring process

A good recruitment video answers the questions candidates usually ask in the first interview: what does the job involve, what training is there, what are the shifts and the site like? Answer those up front and you spend less time with people who were never going to stay.

One shoot, lots of uses

From one well-planned shoot you can get a main video of 60 to 120 seconds, plus short cutdowns for job ads and social media, and versions for your careers page and onboarding. See how to use recruitment videos across job ads, careers pages and onboarding.

Built for real worksites

We film where the work happens, with our own tickets and PPE: White Card, Working at Heights, Confined Space and First Aid. We work around your shifts and your HSE team, anywhere in Australia, so filming doesn't get in the way of production.

If you're hiring and want people who know what they're signing up for, see how we make recruitment videos or get in touch.
